On November 30, 2025, a delegation from the Federation Council and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, led by Mr. Yatskin Andrey Vladimirovich, First Vice Chairman of the Federation Council, visited and held a working session at Can Tho University (CTU). This event is a significant diplomatic milestone for the University in 2025, contributing to the strengthening of Vietnam-Russia friendship and opening up numerous prospects for multi-sector cooperation between CTU and Russian partners.

The delegation was warmly welcomed and worked alongside high-ranking officials, including Mr. Nguyen Manh Tien, Deputy Chairman of the National Defense, Security, and Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, along with representatives from the National Assembly Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From Can Tho City, the delegation was joined by Mr. Le Quang Tung, Member of the Central Party Committee and Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee and Mr. Trương Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, along with representatives from various specialized units. From Can Tho University, the delegation was greeted by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice Rector, along with representatives from the university’s faculties and specialized departments. 

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong emphasized the profound significance of the visit, affirming that it marked an important milestone in the process of enhancing international cooperation and sustainable development at the University. He highlighted: “The development of the University, the prosperity of the Mekong Delta, and the Vietnam-Russia friendship will continue to be nurtured through practical, sustainable, and effective cooperation programs.”

Can Tho University and the Russian Federation have a long-standing traditional relationship, with many of the university’s faculty members having been trained at top universities in Russia and now making important contributions to teaching and research activities. The central role of CTU in the educational and scientific ecosystem of the Mekong Delta has been continuously reaffirmed, contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development and shaping the sustainable future of the region.
