Within the framework of the international project Bridging Digital Divide in Mongolia and Vietnam through HEI’s Digital Transformation (DIGITAL MOVE), Can Tho University (CTU) has actively implemented a hybrid teaching model that combines face-to-face and online learning. This approach aims to enhance the digital competencies of both lecturers and learners, while optimising the effective use of the CTU e-Learning system (Moodle).

The promotion and dissemination of hybrid courses have been carried out through multiple channels, including internal activities for sharing teaching practices, guidance on the use of digital tools, as well as exchanges via email, direct classroom discussions, and announcements or instructions integrated directly into courses on the LMS. These activities support lecturers and students in accessing, familiarising themselves with, and actively engaging in the digital learning environment.

Two typical courses in this group are “Essential Digital Skills” and “Safeguarding Learners Online”, which were developed and tested from the early months. In 2025, with the professional support of a team of experts from the DIGITAL MOVE project.

The “Essential Digital Skills” course is designed according to the European Commission's DigComp 2.2 competency framework, helping students and lecturers develop skills in information searching and management, digital communication, online content creation, and data security. Learners participate in short lessons combining videos, quizzes, and practical exercises, thereby developing essential digital competencies for learning and career.

In addition, the “Safeguarding Learners Online” course is aimed at lecturers and teachers, helping them understand the principles of protecting learners in the digital environment, promoting digital citizenship education, and ensuring online safety in the age of AI. The course combines readings, audio scenarios, interactive tests, and practical tasks, helping learners apply what they learn immediately to the classroom.

Thanks to its flexible and innovative design, the hybrid learning model has been widely adopted among Can Tho University lecturers and students. This approach has contributed to the enhancement of digital skills, the improvement of the quality of online learning materials, and the establishment of a foundation for the future expansion of short-term training courses and international cooperation programmes. The hybrid model offers learners greater flexibility in managing their study schedules, while maintaining meaningful interaction through group discussions, continuous learning feedback, and online assessments.

Hybrid courses have emerged as a key component of educational digital transformation at Can Tho University. Beyond improving the quality and effectiveness of LMS-based learning materials, they also provide a practical basis for the development of short-term online courses and the internationalisation of training content in the current stage.
