On December 07th, 2016, at the Administrative Building, Can Tho University (CTU) was honored to welcome and work with Ms. Mary Tarnowka, the US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City.
 

CTU has close linkages with US research institutes, universities, organizations, especially wih the Embassy and the Consulate General. At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Viet Dung, Vice Rector and representatives of CTU’s units shared cooperative activities with US partners in recent years and suggested orientation for upcoming cooperation activities.

At the meeting, Ms. Mary Tarnowka was delighted to share diplomatic relations between the two countries and expressed her wishes to further strengthen cooperative relations, especially in environment and education sector.
 

The US Consul General also shared that the trip to Can Tho was meaningful to her. It helped her to see and understand the impact of climate change on the Mekong Delta region. Although the meeting took place in short time, but the two sides have exchanged practical issues and challenges posed to the Mekong Delta region, given the orientation for cooperation in the coming time.

After the meeting with leaders and officials of CTU, the delegation attended the graduation ceremony of English Access Microscholarship Program, the program of teaching English for underprivileged students in Can Tho city, organized by the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh city and CTU since March 2015. The program aims to build a foundation of English skills, then promote job opportunities for students in the future.
 

Within 02 years of the participation in the Access program, besides learning English, students were provided with knowledge of socio-culture and computer skills. In addition to studying in classroom, students took part in field trips and social activities.
 

Since its forming in 2004, the program held graduation ceremonies for more than 110,000 students from nearly 80 countries, and this year Viet Nam has more than 350 students graduated from this program.
